Ali Khan, MD, MPH, MBA Biography:
Dr. Ali S. Khan, MD, MPH, MBA, is a distinguished global health security leader, medical epidemiologist, and former Assistant Surgeon General, whose three-decade career spanned public service, biodefense, and academic executive leadership.
Dr. Khan currently serves as the Dean, Richard Holland Presidential Chair, and Tenured Professor of Epidemiology at the College of Public Health, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Since 2014, he has dramatically transformed the College for local, national, and global impact in tackling difficulty public health issues and preventing them in the first place.
He is a key advisor in global and private sectors, serving on the Science Advisory Board to the FDA, the WHO GOARN Executive Steering Committee, and as Founding Board Member for rare disease drug developer, Intrabio Inc. He is also the Editor of the authoritative Control of Communicable Diseases Manual.
During his 23-year tenure at the CDC (1991-2014), Dr. Khan retired as Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response. He led a $1.5 billion enterprise, co-founded the initial U.S. public health biodefense program in 1999, and initiated national preparedness standards. He is recognized for leading or consulting on over 25 international and domestic outbreak responses, including Ebola, SARS, Anthrax Bioterrorism, and Rift Valley Fever.
